Your First Visit
What to Expect
The first visit usually takes 60-90 minutes. I will spend time discussing your goals for physical therapy and that will guide the plan of care that we develop together. I will ask relevant questions about your health and life situation, and will conduct a thorough assessment that will inform me on how to best treat you. This assessment may include posture, movement analysis, strength and range of motion testing, endurance testing, and hands on palpation. An internal vaginal or rectal exam may be recommended, but it is always a choice for you. The results of these assessments will be explained to you. You will most likely be given homework to start on the first day, but your time limitations will be respected. Your plan of care will be established based on the information you communicate, and the findings from the physical assessment. Lastly, you and I will establish a plan for how many visits and how often you need to schedule sessions.
What to Wear
Comfortable clothes will be important on your first visit and for follow up visits. I want you to be able to move freely and if I need to palpate your muscles and bones, it is much easier to feel through soft and stretching clothing as opposed to denim. If you don’t have exercise attire yet, then we will work with what you have.
The Paperwork
Filling out your forms ahead of time when possible will make the first visit smoother. These will be emailed to you to complete electronically.
